Subject: Referee Coaching Course - Leuven, Belgium 6-8 February 2015
Dear all,
Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
Recent
years have seen rapid growth in the number of new clubs in Europe, and
consequently an increase in the number of games being played each year.
2014 alone saw more
60 tournaments and a staggering 1,000+ games played across Europe.
2015 will likely see these numbers increase and so this places pressure
on our existing refereeing resources. To cope with increased number of
games being played,
new referees are urgently needed!
European
referees are fully trained and certified to GAA, LGFA and Camogie
Association standards. Once qualified, referees are invited to express
interest in officiating at tournaments
in both their own regions, and across Europe, and participate in 3-4
tournaments per year. For each tournament, reasonable (vouched) travel
costs (up to EUR 200) are refunded, and up to two night’s accommodation
(in 3/4 star hotel) and all meals are provided
by the host club as well as transfers to/from airports/train stations
etc.
A referee’s coaching course for
new and existing referees (who have not attended a course within the last 3 years) will be held in the
Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe, in Leuven, Belgium on the weekend of 6-8 February. All are welcome to attend and we would particularly welcome participants from the Benelux,
Scandinavian and Central/East regions where we currently have no/few referees.
The course will begin with an informal introduction and supper on Friday evening and continue on Saturday (c.9am – 6pm) and on Sunday (from c. 9am to 1pm). Depending on the number
of participants, the course may begin on the Friday evening, to accommodate for an earlier departure on the Sunday.
Accommodation (bed & breakfast on a sharing basis) and meals (coffees, Friday evening, Saturday lunch/dinner) will be provided by the European County Board. Reasonable travel
expenses (refunded after a referee has officiated at two tournaments) will also be covered by the Board.
I would be grateful if you could circulate this email amongst your club members and would encourage attendance at this course.
If you are interested in becoming a referee/refresher training, I would be grateful if you could
contact me as soon as possible, and in any case, before COB Wednesday, 21 January. Places on this course will be limited and so I encourage you to register your interest asap.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require additional information.
Kind regards,
Marie-Thérèse

Hurling & Camogie Championship 2015 - declarations of interest
Hello all
After a very beneficial convention last week in Belgium , we look forward with renewed interest to our championship in both codes for 2015.
In order to aid with planning and resources and to accomodate teams in terms of preparation etc and to get a headstart on fixing dates for the 2015 ECB calendar,I would be grateful if you would signal your intention or otherwise to host a round of the 2015 championship.
Established clubs are most welcome to submit their interest and some already have done so.However, we have also received interest from developing clubs which participated in last years championship ( Viking Gaels / Dresden ) so if you would formally declare your interest in reply to this mail , it would be great.
And if you could formally declare your interest as soon as you can in December , it would be great.
We will have an additional round this year alongside the normal 4 round championship and this round will be in the format of an interprovincial / developmental 7's competition structure in the hope to foster new and developing clubs and players to participate. The same format applies to camogie so please engage your club members to get involved in next year s championship.I will be sending more information about this additional round in the near future.A mail has gone out to all European clubs ( and football clubs ) yesterday to actively encourage players to get involved and to renew interest in hurling and camogie.....
looking forward to hearing from you all soon

Year end get together Nov 22nd Gothenburg
Hello all
Just
a quick note to inform you that the date for our end of year
get-together has now been switched to Nov 22nd and its now on in
gothenburg.Viking Gaels
Hello all
Hope I find you all well.
well the good news is that we have a Viking Gaels sponsor for 2015.The Irish Rover pub in Copenhagen has agreed to be our sponsor.Attached I have the new Viking Gaels kit for 2015 which they have kindly agreed to sponsor. They have also agreed to donate some funds towards our travel expenses for next year.
I hope this now gives us the impetus and drive to compete at a higher level in 2015.We had a great introductory year in 2014 where we competed at 2 Euro tournaments and came 5th overall in the standings.I need you to unearth the hurlers in your club and get them out of the woodwork.we already have 2/3 new players for next year ( Welcome John Lambert and Tony Kennedy ) and we need just a few more to be really competitive. As an ECB board member, I will really be pushing for the Nordic region to host a round of the European championship tournaments in 2015 with Copenhagen more than likely the candidate due to its central location.
There are now no roadblocks to our progress.Hurleys and helmets can and will be provided if needed. The calendar will be agreed by late January and hurling gets first pick of dates on ECB calendar. Therefore,we can plan well in advance and have a good idea of numbers.
thanks to all the lads who competed for the Gaels in 2014.Im sure you will all agree it was a really enjoyable weekend and the level of competitive games was really high.
its down to ye all now lads.Lets get our house in order and have a real good crack at the hurling season in 2015.
( please forward to anyone who i may have missed or should be on the mailing list - it does need to be amended

2015 Nordic Football Championship & Convention matters II
Hi Billy,
Great to get the ball rolling early! We in would certainly be interested in hosting a round of the Nordic C'ship in Stockholm next year. 2012 was the last time we hosted and we have traveled to every tournament since.
Regarding issues for the region I think coaching and referees are two big areas that we need to focus on. I believe Donie made a great start in Oslo earlier this year with the coaching. I think it would be great to expand that out to the rest of the region and try to increase the amount of qualified coaches. It would be great to have a goal to get one person per club that is qualified to give coaching courses! I'm not sure if it's an issue for the convention but possibly just a coordination issue with the coaching officer of the ECB.
We have two people that have expressed interest in refereeing. We hope to send them on a refereeing course early next year.
Should we consider setting up our own formal organisational structure in the Nordics with the amount of teams we have now? It could also benefit us when trying to get pitches, funding etc if we have a formal organisation set up in the region. We could also market the Nordic C'ship and try to get sponsors on board that could subsidise the tournament costs - for example a hotel chain to help with accommodation. Lots of possibilities if we could get a few heads together.
Interested to hear your thoughts!
Colin

2015 Nordic Football Championship & Convention matters
Hello all
I hope I find you all well and your respective clubs are taking a well-earned break from all the activity of a long and tough season.Even though one season has finished , there is another one shortly around the corner. The winter break wont seem that long until we are all ready to go again.
To this end,I feel it would be no harm to prepare ourselves for next year in terms of planning of tournaments and how we can all accomodate and help each other. As a ECB board member, there is a huge amount of logistical planning that goes into co-ordinating the fixture list for a whole continent across four grades.
Our region has steadily expanded over the last 2/3 years and I welcome our new and not so new teams from Helsinki,Oulu,Jyvaskula along with our establised teams of Gothenburg,Malmo,Stockholm, Copenhagen,Tailinn.Moscow GAA maybe on the horizon soon also.
Therefore,we had operated a round-robin system of hosting of events / rounds of the Ladies & Mens Football championship. As new teams have come on board, this needs to be reviewed so teams get a chance to host if they so wish.So basically what I am asking at this early stage is for declarations of intent to host.we usually have 3 rounds of the Nordic championship and last year Oslo,Helsinki and Copenhagen hosted. On behalf of Gothenburg GAA club,we would love to host a round next year as a means of developing the work we have put in down here to attract non-native players.
The ECB fixture list has to be completed by early Feb 2015 so if we have our dates and venues agreed before then ,it will aid us greatly to obtain more suitable dates in May,July and August .
Therefore, please send in your declaration of intent to host in 2015.,, thank you !!!
One other matter is that the Euro GAA convention is on the end of November in Belgium.Put simply, is there any motions or considerations that we need to consider as a region which will be of benefit to us all? Are we all happy with the current format - does it need to be restructured? Do you want changes made to the organisation as a whole.? We are a strong region but have huge logistical and cost issues in playing our games that other regions dont have to consider.
Is there something you would like to see on this point.? Coaching considerations maybe?Combination teams at tournaments? Representative sides ?
all suggestions / viewpoints welcome and remember,we are all in this region together so any motions have to be of benefit to all of us!!
And finally,as the Euro Hurling officer, i would actively encourage hurlers in your clubs to come out of the woodwork and get involved with the Viking Gaels in 2015.we had a hugely successful 2014 and I am strongly pursuing that a Nordic city host a round of the hurling championship in 2015.We are entitled to as we attended two rounds of the Euro championship in 2014... I know ye are there so come on !!!!!

Are there any special dietary requirements?
