Trip updates part II

Hello all
just a few reminders that we will have training again next week on Monday and Thursday (same time in Slottskogen @ 6.30pm). Good turnout this week and some good sessions.

As below, can you please give the reg fee as detailed below next week at training? If at all possibe, tks once again

We will have a full mens panel In Limerick (no subs at the moment) so it'll be a long hard tough day.
Dec-Billy-Paul-Shane-Eoin -Adrian Kelly-Adrian Keogh-Niall-Owen-Moses-Mike Glennon..

As i dont know what pitches we'll be playing on,its better to bring blades (as we may be playing on astro turf/syntethic pitch). Can someone help Shane out with a size 12 pair of boots and try and get your hands on gloves, its more than likely going to be wet.

Our ladies will be playing with Copenhagen (subject to confirmation ).

Pending what time we get to Limerick on Friday, there is free entrance to Limerick greyhound track for a race night on the friday night. Otherwise,we'll meet in the hotel on Friday night for a pre-meeting!! Around 9 p.m. probably.. more on this later.

Otherwise, see ye all tonight for a few scoops in the new Dubs in Jarntorget from 8pm on.!!!

ECB Football final round in Limerick - November 5th

Hello all,
see below information about the tournament in Limerick. More information to follow. Let me know arrival and departure details as Tony describes below, there may be a chance to piggy back on some transort. I have gone back to him with our numbers etc..
Regds,
Billy

On 21 September 2011 01:37, ECB Secretary:
A chara,

You will be aware that to celebrate Limerick City's designation as European City of Sport 2011, the final round of the ECB football Championships and Shield will take place in Limerick on Saturday, November 5th.

The programme will include a night at Limerick's new Greyhound Stadium on Friday night (with the ECB Stakes being one of the races on the card!!) See: http://www.igb.ie/Limerick/Great-Night-Out-III/

The tournament group games and matches up to and including the semi-finals of the various competitions will take place on state of the art 3G astroturf pitches and grass pitches in the University of Limerick (see: http://www.universityarena.com/outdoor.html) on Saturday, November 3rd.

Teams will be transported from hotels in time for Registration which will commence at 08:30 and the first games will be 09:00. Semi-finals are scheduled for 15:00. Lunch will be provided in the with a transfer to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick city afterwards.

The finals of the Shield, Ladies and Men's Championships will commence at 16:30, 17:15 and 18:00. (see http://www.limerickgaa.ie/ for pictures of the Gaelic Grounds)

The gala dinner banquet and presentations with special GAA & LFGA guests will follow a Civic Reception for team captains and mentors at 19:45.

Each team will receive a pack with full information, shopping discount vouchers, souvenir programmes and meal/drinks vouchers upon arrival.

Please note Limerick County GAA board will provide all umpires, linespeople, pitch co-ordinators and registration staff. Thus teams will be free to concentrate on playing and enjoying the finest facilities in the European City of Sport 2011.

Limerick County Board in conjunction with a number of sponsors will be hosting the games and assisting the ECB in providing personnel, transportation between venues and hotels as well as from/to arrival points in Ireland. It also hoped to arrange TV coverage of the finals.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to finalise arrangements and pricing for various accommodation and meal packages, I am trying to put together details of requirements for accommodation and transport for the final football round in Limerick.

Therefore I would be grateful if you could send me the information specified in the attached spreadsheet as soon as possible.

*Accommodation*
Accommodation will be based on twin/triple rooms in 2/3/4* hotels unless otherwise specified.

*Transport*
We will try to arrange transfers from airports or ferry ports, Actual details will be arranged when we see how we can group travelling parties with similar arrival/departure times. It is expected that transport will be free if we can group arrivals together (or at minimal cost, but certainly cheaper than public transport) Transfer between events, games venues and hotels in Limerick will be provided free of charge.

*Meals*
It is proposed to arrange dinner and a night out at Limerick greyhound racing stadium on the Friday night. Lunch will be provided in the University of Limerick restaurants on the Saturday. A gala dinner banquet and presentations will be take place on Saturday night. Obviously costs will depend on numbers, the more we have for each meal, the lower the cost. It is hoped that we can provide two dinners (Friday + Saturday) and lunch on Saturday for 35-45 euro's per person (including registration fees etc).

We expect that teams will probably be planning or have made definite arrangements for travelling therefore we are asking you to please complete the attached spreadsheet* (and save with your club name in the filename)*and return to me by Friday September 23rd.

At this stage a reasonable estimate is sufficient as detailed booking forms will issue next week when approximate requirements are established and prices have been negotiated with suppliers. Our intention is to provide 2/3/4* hotel accommodation at prices significantly below usual rates.

The assistance of the Limerick County Board and sponsors should ensure that teams will not incur costs above the normal (or indeed cheaper) than the usual costs of attending the final round at an ECB venue (excluding travel). If you have not booked travel as yet, a useful site for checking air fare options is http://www.momondo.com/, Please note that the following airports should be checked for flights - Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Kerry, whilst ferries from Cherbourg to Rosslare can be checked at http://www.irishferries.com/ie/timetable-ie-fr.asp.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Is mise le meas,
Tony

Gothenburg GAA Newsletter September 2011

Hello all
just a quick mail to let you know what's happening in Gothenburg GAA circles this month.

Pan-Euro Championships Limerick Nov 5th
As per the EGM held last Friday evening , it was agreed that Gothenburg GAA will attend the last European tournament this year in Limerick. The following people have said they will attend provisionally:
Ladies: Catherine, Mia
Men: Niall, Declan, Billy, Kevin, Adrian Kelly, Eoin, Adrian Keogh
Awaiting confirmation or otherwise: David, Stephen, Brendan, Jakey
Please let me or Declan or Niall know whether you intend to travel or not as soon as you can.

It was agreed that everybody make their own way to Limerick as everyone has different travel plans.

Appreciate that its not easy to go at the best of times but in order to ease the burden, Gothenburg GAA will pay for accomodation for the weekend (Friday and Saturday night) and hopefully will be in a position to pay for the tournament fee as well.

Accomodation has been provisionally booked at the Travelodge Inn in Castletroy for the Friday and Saturday night. The tournament itself is being held at the UL complex with the finals being held at the Gaelic Grounds stadium.

Training
We will resume training onThursday 22nd September.As the nights are closing in,we'll meet at 18:15 in Slottskogen (usual place). We'll have more physical than ballwork for the first few sessions and we'll need to do a couple of weekend ballwork sessions.

Social events
The first Gothenburg GAA Golf Classic is all set for Sunday 25th September. 16 players have signed up and we should be able to fill all our tee times. Everybody is welcome to come along for the day even if you dont play golf, we still need caddies. Its all a bit of fun. First tee-time is 12:20 in Lerjedalen Golf klubb in Gunnilse. If you need directions or bus times, just get in contact.

Table quiz - A table quiz is pencilled in for october to raise even more funds for our trip to Ireland. This time however, we need people to show up and bring others with them. We're in last chance saloon with the Dubliners due to bad turnouts for these events so it might be a case of getting money off people before the night itself.

Irish trad night - The long awaited trad music night is still being planned. Might be a christmas event now but we'll let you know.

EGM /Stockholm review/Future plans

Well all

Just a quick mail to give you all a heads up on latest news in Gothenburg GAA Circles

Stockholm tournament review :

Gothenbburg GAA were in attendance for the last round of the Scandinavian championship.On a dank,horrible,rainy afternoon ,Gotheburg once again punched above their weight and performed with distinction.

First game versus Malmo saw the conditions deteriorating steadily but we got off to a good start and points from Adrian and Shane kept us in touch with Malmo at the break.However,Malmo got the upper hand in the second half with some well-taken points from their free-running forwards and although we pulled a goal back , there was just 2 points in it at the end .Great displays once again all round the pitch with Kevin and Adrian controlling midfield , David and Eoin sturdy in defence and Brendan mopping up and providing link play with Greg and Daniel , we fought as always to the end.( Malmo 0-7 Gothenburg 1-1 )

Next match up was Oslo and this turned out to be a surprise fixture in more ways than one.With a great start whereby we took the lead from the off ,Gothenburg put some great link play together and managed to go in at half-time all square with our Norweigan opponents.However, things went rapidly downhill after the break with some incredulous refereeing decisions giving Oslo some handy points.Added to this ,over-zealous tackling from Oslo resulted in Billy being cleaved by an Oslo player whilst trying to clear .Well,that was the signal for Brendan "everybody was Kung-fu fighting " O Driscoll to come in swinging to save the day.Although he got a beautiful left hook square to his jaw, he left his mark on a couple of Oslo players .The match peetered out after that with Oslo keeping the Got attack at bay .( Oslo 0-8 Gothenburg 0-4 )

Last match of the day saw Gothenburg taking on their new rivals and kingpins Stockholm.This turned out to be Gothenburgs best performance of the day who were right in it up until the final whistle.Some early points and some brilliant link play,movement and running from Adrian ,Steve ,Shane,David and Brendan meant that we shell-shocked Stockholm who responded with a poxy rebound goal.This gave them a lift and they went into the break two points up.Gothenburg tore into them again after the break and although we enjoyed the lions share of possession we just could nt translate this into scores,.Stockholm scored a late goal to seal the deal but we finished the tournament on a high nonetheless. ( Gothenburg 0-5 Stockholm 2-4 )

Also, a big shout out to Jessica Dahlman who played her first ever Gaelic football match and tournament.She played on the Stockholm team versus Talinn and I think now that she has gotten the Gaelic bug,she 's now a fixture.Well done ,Jessica !!!!!

Big thanks to Greg for coming up to Stockholm for the tournament !!thanks again ,big man !!

Gothenburg 's Player of the tournament - Without doubt ,David Burke .Tenacious defending all-day by the teak-tough Corkman .Consistent all day and doled out the hits when they needed to be given.!!good man,david.!!!

Best "Ultimate cage fighter " impression - Brendan O Driscoll ( see above )

Best " Person who kept everybody else awake on Friday night due to his snoring " - Jakey ( thanks again ) !!

So where to next ..........?

Well next port of call is the last round of the Pan-Euros in Limerick on Nov 5th.We need to decide finally if we are attending or not.I think we should go.. as simple as that.However, there really is no point going if we only go with 5 or 6.So, in order to arrange and discuss, a meeting ( EGM ) should be called to see what the story is.. i put forward Friday 9th September ( time and location to be decided ) for an EGM ... any other suggestions for dates which are more suitable ,just put them forward.we can discuss fundraising etc if the plan is to go ahead....

PS ,,, Catherine took a load of pictures.Can someone download them from Dropbox and put on the GAA website.Picasso

Gothenburg GAA Newsletter August 2011

Hello all
See below the latest news in Gothenburg GAA circles :

Stockholm tournament
The last round of the Scandinavian championship is fast approaching. On the training front, can we all make an effort to attend training next Thursday 11th August @ 19:15 in Slottskogen and see how fit we are! Logistics wise, the following people have confirmed they are going (i.e. travelling up with arranged transport and staying at the hostel):
Declan/Billy/Eoin/Adrian/Stephen/Greg/Daniel/Jakey/Catherine/Jessica.

Kevin is travelling up and down same day by train. David and Brendan have their own transport and accomodation organised. That means we have 10 male players and 2 female players (Jakey, you're not playing no matter how much you plead!). Also,we will only have 9 people travelling back as Catherine is staying in Stockholm. Therefore, I need to know people's opinions about hiring a minibus, is it worth it or will we just take 3 cars?

If people have made alternative travel plans, let me know immediately as i need to book the 9 seater by latest Thursday or otherwise. The cost as stated earlier will be 500 sek for the 2 nights accomodation and 300 sek for tournament fee etc. The matches are taking place in Arsta.

For the tournament itself, there will actually be teams from Helsinki and Tailinn there. They will not be in our championship but are just playing some games to get introduced. All of this information is on the Stockholm GAA facebook invitation so have a look etc.

By the way, can someone print out driving instructions to the pitch and pitch to hostel and hostel to venue etc. (3 copies of each).

Gothenburg GAA Golf Classic
As a fundraiser, we have gotten in conjunction with Lerjedalens GK in Gunnilse , a date to hold a GAA golf fundraising event in either of the last 2 weekends of September. It will more than likely be on a Sunday. We have gotten 6 tee times which means we need 24 people or more to attend. Please let me know if you or someone you know who golfs would like to attend. Green fee and meal will be around 400 sek but i cant finalise final cost unless we know how many people will attend. Let 's get cracking!!!! Indeed, even if you dont golf, you can attend on the day and have a bit of fun.... Facebook invitation will be going up shortly!!

Training and other news - 20 July 2011

Hello all,
just a quick update on things happening in Gothenburg GAA circles

Training
For the time being,we wont have any more sessions until the 1st Thursday in August (the 4th) at 7 p.m. in Slottskogen. Too many people away on hols etc. Please make sure ye do ye're own bit, a few LSR's combined with some interval training - need to build up the stamina for next month.

Stockholm tournament
Going to confirm figures for going by 1st August but if you haven't confirmed that you are going by now, please do so. Also, just learned this week that Copenhagen are not travelling. This will mean less matches and the chance that we may travel up the morning of the tournament if we have a later start... We might even take the train if its cheaper but otherwise take it that we are still taking the minibus and travelling up the friday night. We still need one volunteer car though, who is willing?
Based on current costs itll be 300 sek reg fee and 500 sek for the 2 nights accomodation. I know it seems expensive but this leads to my next point.

Sponsorship
After a very productive meeting with the mgt of the Dubliner pub, they have agreed to sponsor us this year to the tune of 10000SEK. The main reason cited for sponsorship was the extreme cost of travelling to tournaments as well as the upcoming trip to Ireland for the Euro finals.

However, this is not enough on its own. With a breakdown of the costs for the Ireland trip, it turns out at around 2500 sek per person to travel/30000 sek for everything. The sponsorship will lessen the blow somewhat but if we could get more money together, this would considerably lessen the financial burden on people travelling. Therefore we need fundraising ideas and here are some that Declan came up with.

Pub quiz - have the hold this in August before our trip to Stockholm. One good turnout for this and we '' ll be good for Stockholm..possibly the 16th of August in the old Dubs.if we confirm the date with the Dubliner, we have to bring the people in and this will affect the sponsorship.are we agreed?please let me know by return of mail who would attend and how many people they could bring.

Sponsored parachute jump - i m booked to do a tandem parachute jump before the summer ends. I'm trying to see can i sort out the sponsorship end and not be hit with a tax bill of some sort at year end.if i get the green light, will ye sponsor me ? Jaysus,im jumping out of a plane for God s sake.

Irish trad night - have to have some sort of trad night for the GAA club before November.can discuss this at a later date ....

Petrol - 100 sek per person

12 people travelling so this works out at 320 sek per person.This excludes the 300 sek ( 250 dkk) payable to Cope nhagen GAA on the day which covers reg fee,evening meal and lunch.

Gothenburg GAA may be able to pay for the mini-bus which will reduce the cost further.any money left over can go to a few drinks at the end of evening.

take into consideration we may have to get taxis from hostel to meal venue and back into town again if we are running late.we'll share the cabs but they 'll still maybe 150 dkk for the night.

last thing, training thursday evening currently in Kviberg at 6.45pm.it may change to slottskogen if kviberg is unavailable.if its ok,please try and bring the money thursday evening(including reg fee).this will save alot of hassle over the weekend..

thanks again and here's to gothenburg GAA on tour...

Copenhagen Info Pack

Hello all

Please see attached info pack for the Copenhagen tournament.Can someone print 3 copies of
  1. directions to the pitch
  2. directions to the hostel from the pitch
  3. directions from the hostel to the meal venue ( we'll probably take taxis if we're behind time)
As mentioned below the fee or the day is 250 Danish kronor ( 300 sek).I would say the easiest is to lodge the money over the next few days to the account on the pack and make sure your name is mentioned when you pay on the internet.or else pay it on the day.

As its stands,we'll be travelling with one mini-bus and 1 car.Mini-bus ( 8 seater ) has been booked.If more people travel, we'll need an 2 cars .Ill drive one ( either mine or another ).. who'\s up for driving the mini-bus.? Deal is who drives down does nt have to drive back so they can have a few drinks saturday night.

Training is now every thursday ( instead of monday )in Kviberg .ready to go for 7pm.need to put a bit of work in , yah ?

all the best

June 11th Copenhagen Tournament Update

Hey all, yes we will be going now. Thanks for all the positive input. Kev is dead right. Let's go down and have a blast. 10 players have confirmed they will travel. Just waiting on Stephen G, Jakey said he will travel as back-up and our star goalkeeper from last year, Phil Sprackers, has said he will be there. He just needs to confirm tonite. We also might have one or two berserkers travelling but they have not come back to me yet.

Players therefore are:
Billy/Dec/Brendan/Adrian/Kevin H/Niall/Daniel/David Burke/Greg/Noelie Maher/Jakey ...
Eoin cant make it due to work commitments.

I'll see how accomodation goes tonight when I look.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi all
Thank you all for your quick response.
Pending one confirmation, the most we will be travelling down with is 10 players. Unless we unearth a few players in the next 2 weeks. I will be talking to the Berserkers and see do they have anyone who wants to come down. Question is now -will we still go ahead and travel? I personally would still like to go even if it means we have to borrow players down there. The other teams plan to bring about the same amount of players to the CPH tournament.
Let me know your feelings and we'll go from there.Persons confirmed to travel :
Billy/Dec/Brendan/Adrian/Kevin H/Niall/Daniel/David Burke/Greg
All bar David will require accomodation.
Eoin cant make it due to work commitments
let us know. itll still be a great weekend.
Gothenburg tournament - a word from the gaffer
Hi all ,
just a quick mail to say well done to everybody yesterday for the effort put in by players and the commitee Saturday. Everyone mucked in to make it a great day and all the visiting teams said they had a great day. Results did not go our way but that 's not the point. It was a great success.
The only thing left to do is put the crossbars back in their original position. Can one or two people help Monday evening from 17:00 on to help get them fixed. They have to be\done by Monday night.
As for training, rest week this week. I'll be jogging in Skatas around 19:30, if anyone is interested. We'll resume training next monday 23rd at 18:45 in Kviberg.
Well done again,
Billy
Gothenburg tournament - comments
Alrite ladies and gentlemen,
have to say I really enjoyed Saturday. I really appreciate all the work youse living up in the city put into making saturday such a success. There was great atmosphere all day long. Ok, results were a touch disappointing, but in periods we played some really nice football. I believe that if we polish up or even bear in mind a few simple things like: 1) having a routine or organising our kick outs 2) concentrating on keeping our shape which in turn makes us difficult to play against 3) Having a principle free / 45 kicker 4) getting the best out of the players we have regarding positions/ tactics, especially as we now know what the other teams offer in strenghts and weaknesses 5) Getting with the pace of the game from the beginning is vital - of which I completely misunderstood!
Given we were quite tight for players it was a real shame that our 'dynamo' billy and 'classy' adrain took heavy, heavy knocks. Its true, we can only get better. I fancy us for a few points in copenhagen.
Keep er lit folks
May 14th task list
Hello all,
I had a meeting with Spartacus last night and the following are action items that need to be considered and actioned. Actions that need volunteers are highlighted in bold and italic. They may be covered already on Dec 's action list.
Pitch
a/GAA pitch markings will be done by the Kommun next Thursday night. Flags can be got from the Spartacus equipment container on the morning of match.
b/Goal crossbars will need to be lowered and nets installed . This can be done Thur night at the earliest but Friday night seems more preferable. Likewise, after the tournament, the crossbars need to be returned to original position by latest Monday night 16th May. We need volunteers .. any takers ?
c/Dressing rooms - 4 dressing rooms / 5 teams , we will just have to alternate on the day. Can someone make team signs for the doors ?
BBQ and Bar
a/We have use of both a gas and a charcoal BBQ. I think we'll be OK with the coal one. I think it needs a bit of a clean. Any volunteers? Likewise, the burgers/hot dogs will be put into the fridges on Friday night. We will need someone to run the BBQ saturday. Any food we do not sell is returned to Lerjedalen GC. Any takers for running the bbq ?
As for the bar, Spartacus will have someone all day the bar. It is their bar and any profit they make is theirs. If you are telling friends that are coming, it is imperative that you tell them not to bring beer or hard liquor of their own. If caught, they and Spartacus and us can get into serious crap. Its just not worth it.
b/Also, the PA system is good to go. We will need someone who is technically minded to set it up. We will need a copy of Amhran na bhFiann / some good rebel music CD' s. Who can take this action item?
c/We can get the tents / marquee on Friday night and have them already put up on Friday night. We wasted valuable time last year putting them up on the morning of the matches. Can we have some volunteers for doing this and the goalposts on Friday night.? We can put out the benches saturday morning.
Food
a/I have confirmed numbers of 75 for the evening buffet at the Dubliners. I have asked all teams coming to break down who is staying on for dinner etc cos we have always had the case whereby teams have cancelled on the day. If they cancel on the day,they still pay for the food. No exceptions. Who can take the registration desk on the day and collect money if needed ?
PS If you have dietary requirements for your lunch pack or evening meal, please tell me by Thursday or Friday.
b/Can someone make out evening buffet tickets (dated) ideally with the gaa club logo?Make out 110 just to be safe .
c/The food for the lunch packs will be ready to be made on the Friday night as well. We can either make them in Lerjedalen Golf club or bring them to Spartacus clubhouse. Either way, we need volunteers for making the packs on the Friday - any takers ?
d/ Last thing, please confirm by text or mail soonest if you are attending the evening meal and if you want a lunch pack.
That s about it at the moment. Please look at Declans task list to see the current status of action items - they may be covered already or have ownership already
tks,
Billy
Gothenburg GAA Newsletter March 2011
Hello all and welcome to the Gothenburg GAA newsletter March 2010
Just a few bits of news to keep all informed as to the current goings-on in Gothenburg GAA
Training
Training attendances need to pick up. We had a better turnout last Wednesday but with only 8 weeks to the tournament, we need to ramp it up. If you are serious about the team this year, we need to start showing up. If you are bringing someone new, please bring them along.
Next week, we will train outdoors twice. On Monday, we will meet at Slottskogen at 18:30 at Belparc car park. Ready to go for 18:45. We will train again on Thursday in Skatas (ready to go at the clock for 19:00), your attendance is greatly required. I appreciate some people are training elsewhere but make it your aim to attend at least one of the sessions.
One more thing - we are just waiting the go-ahead from the Kommun as to when we can go on the new pitch in Kviberg. We will be "sharing" with the Berserkers. It is in their name.
May 14th tournment
We finally got confirmation that we can hold the 1st round of the Scandinavian championship on May 14th. A task list doc has been sent out by Declan - please review and confirm what you can do to help. We all need to chip in - not just the same few.
Likewise, if you could provisionally state whether you will be attending on this day would help us to plan, as you know, we need all the players we can get on the day.
Please note there is a new date for the 2nd round which takes place in Copenhagen. The new date is June 11th. If you could also provisionally state whether you will be going, we can start searching for accomodation etc and do a cost review.
Likewise, Stockholm will be travelling with a ladies team for the may 14th, so girls if you are serious about having a team, the time is now.
Fundraising
Lads and lassies, the turnout for the two fundraising events in Paddy's week were absolutely atrocious. This is the reason why tournaments are costing do much when we go. The club cannot function if everybody does not pull their weight and contribute. Please try and support our next event - please review the fundraising task list and please contribute with your own ideas as to how we can raise more money for the club..
Membership
Please pay your membership fee as soon as possible. Bank information is on the website . www.gothenburggaa.se
News
A big congrats to Greg Lunny and his partner on the birth of their baby girl on St.Patrick's day.!!!! well done ...
Last word
I hope I d'ont sound too negative but its just that we have had a very successful club all along. The tournaments and crack that we've had have been amongst the best in the Nordic region. It would be great to keep this going as Gothenburg needs their GAA club. Appreciate everyone's effort and their input.
Training update
Folks,
Billy asked me to send this email to inform you there is no indoor training this evening (21st March) with the aussie rules guys.
Next training is on Wednesday evening (23rd March) in Skatås at 7pm.
We need everyone to be there on Wednesday night as the attendance has been very poor recently, with only 2 people training last week. Our tournament is only 8 weeks away so we really need to start training together if we are going to be serious contenders this year.
Regards,
Declan.
Table Quiz Info
We still need more spot prizes for next monday night. If you can get your companies to donate (even a bottle of wine will be grand) just something to generate the interest. Main prize so far is a 500 sek voucher from the Dubliner.
We will need some collectors on the night to collect the fees from the tables. Who 's up for it? I'll do it. Basically, as suggested, we wont give out an answer sheet until the fee has been paid. Could someone print out around 30 copies of the poster that David Burke and Mia created. These fold nicely into a brochure and we should have them on the tables as advertising on the night.
The Dubliner has also asked us to mention their sponsored 3 legged race starting from the new Dubs on St. Patricks Day. More will be disclosed on the night but if we could mention it to our facebook friends , it would be great ...
see ye next monday night with a load of people .
Irish Society
Some years back we had an association with the Portugese Society which worked really well. We had a couple of fundraisers there and its a great place etc. There is a possibility that we can use it again this year. If we can provide them with a list of 30-40 people who are willing to pay 600 sek per family for the year, we can use the place for whatever function we want and help launch the Gothenburg Irish society.
Let me know if you are willing and remember its per family....
Gothenburg GAA Newsletter January 2011
Hello all and welcome to 2011
Here's looking to a fantastic year of GAA in Gothenburg. We just want to send out a mail to welcome our new and old members and to keep all informed of what's going on in Gothenburg GAA circles.
Training
Training shall recommence very shortly, weather permitting of course. The first session will be on Monday 31st January. Meeting at the same place in Slottskogen at 18:15 (ready to go for 18:30). We will have a training schedule so people will know when and where training is on. Ballwork will commence once the weather allows us.
Pitch
We may know very shortly whether we will be in a position to share a full-size Gaelic pitch of our own with the Goteberg berserkers. This pitch is in Utby and we dont know facilities or anything just yet. If this falls through, we will train once again with Spartaus out in Partille.
Scandinavian Championship 2011
The need for training to begin immediately is apparent now as the draft calender from the ECB GAA has been published. There was a request that our championship to begin in march but this was quickly rejected as no way would any pitch be ready in March. However we expect the first round to commence in late April early May. All the Nordic teams are having a conference call next week to see what the lay of the land is but in short it will be the following
  • 3 regional rounds this year (with a provision for a 4th if the championship is tied). It looks like the tournaments will be on a rotational basis with Copenhagen, Gothenburg & Stockholm holding the rounds this year and Malmo, Oslo, Helsinki holding the 2012 rounds. It looks very likely that Stockholm will be holding a Pan-Euro round this year so if this is the case, it will be a prime objective for Gothenburg to attend.
Viking Gaels
The Viking Gales hurling team has now been ratified for competition in 2011 hurling tournaments. As per the schedule, I think it should be a prime objective for representation from Gothenburg seeing as most of us are hurlers. More information to follow shortly in the next few weeks.
New Players
We welcome new players Colm Keller and Brendan O Driscoll to the ranks. Welcome guys. Brendan joins us from Stockholm so is a welcome addition to the squad. Welcome aboard guys !!!
Recruitment and advertising
Thanks to David and Mia for producing those wonderful posters advertising Gothenburg GAA. Please put them up in any clubs , offices, universities. We need to recruit more players again to the teams and all avenues must be explored. If you need a copy of the posters, please get in contact.
Fundraising
As always, fundraising is an ongoing matter. We will always need funds from outside sources so please lets get cracking on some ideas for the new year (Paddy's Day/6 Nations/Bingo/Table Quiz/etc.). Lets see who has any ideas.
AGM
Gothenburg GAA AGM will take place before February 18 (probably during week 7). We will probably have it in Dubliners Jarntorget but we will keep you posted on date and details.
Membership details
There is a new ECB requirement that all membership names and details are accessible on the GAA database. We are in the process of collation all the data but just to make sure all details are still correct, please send your name, address, DOB, phone number and e-mail addresses to either this mail address or the Gothenburg GAA website.
Also, the membership fee will be discussed at AGM but rates will probably be the same as last year (500 sek playing, 250 sek non-playing). The membership fee will have to be paid before Paddy's Day due to the proximity of the regional tournaments.
That 's the story for the moment. Keep an eye out on the website for updates and we'll be using facebook and twitter more this year.
I've attached the GAA posters and I will forward the Euro 2011 fixture list for your viewing shortly.
