Subject: Referee Coaching Course - Leuven, Belgium 6-8 February 2015

Dear all,

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

Recent years have seen rapid growth in the number of new clubs in Europe, and consequently an increase in the number of games being played each year. 2014 alone saw more 60 tournaments and a staggering 1,000+ games played across Europe. 2015 will likely see these numbers increase and so this places pressure on our existing refereeing resources. To cope with increased number of games being played, new referees are urgently needed!

European referees are fully trained and certified to GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association standards. Once qualified, referees are invited to express interest in officiating at tournaments in both their own regions, and across Europe, and participate in 3-4 tournaments per year. For each tournament, reasonable (vouched) travel costs (up to EUR 200) are refunded, and up to two night’s accommodation (in 3/4 star hotel) and all meals are provided by the host club as well as transfers to/from airports/train stations etc.

A referee’s coaching course for new and existing referees (who have not attended a course within the last 3 years) will be held in the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe, in Leuven, Belgium on the weekend of 6-8 February. All are welcome to attend and we would particularly welcome participants from the Benelux, Scandinavian and Central/East regions where we currently have no/few referees.

The course will begin with an informal introduction and supper on Friday evening and continue on Saturday (c.9am – 6pm) and on Sunday (from c. 9am to 1pm). Depending on the number of participants, the course may begin on the Friday evening, to accommodate for an earlier departure on the Sunday.

Accommodation (bed & breakfast on a sharing basis) and meals (coffees, Friday evening, Saturday lunch/dinner) will be provided by the European County Board. Reasonable travel expenses (refunded after a referee has officiated at two tournaments) will also be covered by the Board.

I would be grateful if you could circulate this email amongst your club members and would encourage attendance at this course.

If you are interested in becoming a referee/refresher training, I would be grateful if you could contact me as soon as possible, and in any case, before COB Wednesday, 21 January. Places on this course will be limited and so I encourage you to register your interest asap.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require additional information.

Kind regards,

Marie-Thérèse
